General Information

The route covers hostile, mountainous terrain and finishes each day in a campsite or close to a picturesque village. The race itself is very challenging, and each day offers an opportunity to enjoy the local culture and ambiance of the Granada Province. Interaction between village inhabitants and competitors is important for the race and a good example of how sports tourism can benefit the region. We are grateful for the support of the towns, villages, various tourist information departments, and Regional Government and ask that all competitors treat the local people and the environment with respect.

** Smoking is not permitted anywhere along the route or in any campsite.

The race is semi-supported :
Competitors carry obligatory items (see Equipment list below). This includes food/energy bars/gels and water excluding any pre-mixed electrolyte drinks. Water will be available at the start, finish, and every checkpoint.

Non-obligatory equipment will be transported from village to village in official Race Kit Bags (RKB’s) with a maximum weight of 10kgs. During stages, competitors are required to carry enough food to sustain them. They are permitted to purchase non-alcoholic drinks or snacks along the course if they wish to. Dried food, bars, gels, etc. available for pre-order purchase and on site during the race.

Water :
In order to reduce waste (plastic and water) we will supply water at Check Points via 5 litre bottles with some 1.5L bottles available. This means you can top up your own bottles, 2 x 750ml (advised) or bladder (not recommended), add electrolytes (eletewater, etc) without taking a smaller bottle and leaving it half used. Water will be supplied at stage starts, checkpoints and finishes. In addition, drinkable mountain springs will be marked on the route map. Tap water is safe to drink except where you see an " Aqua Non Potable " sign.

Race Villages :
The race villages are equipped with assigned tents and RKB’s, first aid station, information board, and massage treatment stations (prepaid card available at registration). There will be no gender separation. Basic facilities include shower and toilet. Field kitchen will supply boiling water. Drinks and special “race recovery” food station open for a limited time at the end of each stage.

Medical Facilities :
Professional medical support and Red Cross ambulance service will be provided. There are medical centres in each village. The mobile support team will handle any major injuries or medical problems during a stage, and the competitor will be taken to hospital or removed from the race at the discretion of the Race Doctor. Competitors are required to carry their own personal remedy materials including blister kits, Paracetamol, and anti-diarrhea medication, etc.

Race Shop :
Electrolyte and meal supplements, gear (walking poles, socks, mangas, K-winds, head coverage, etc.), dried food, Hydrapack gel-bots/soft flasks and other recommended necessities will be available for purchase in the race village.

Massage :
A team of masseurs will be available at each campsite between stage completion and 20.00hrs. There are limited time slots and a charge for the service to be paid for at registration.

Insurance :
Accident insurance for the five days of the race is included in the entry price. Participants are required to show proof of travel insurance.

Ground Assistance :
If a competitor deviates from the designated route and a search mission is undertaken, the associated costs must be met by the competitor. There are a series of protocols for the ground crew to follow on such an occasion.

Dropping Out :
If an injury or medical emergency occurs precluding a competitor from completing the stage, the competitor’s name and number will be recorded at the nearest available checkpoint and relayed to the finish. Competitors who drop out on one stage but feel prepared to continue later in the race will be allowed to run as unclassified with the Race Doctor’s approval.

Competitors are not allowed to leave the race without officially informing the organizers and making personal arrangements for departure.
