The route is over hostile, mountainous terrain and finishes each day in, or close to, a small town or village. As organizers we want the race to be a tough challenge, which it most definitely is, but also an opportunity to visit and enjoy the local culture, villages and ambiance of the Poniente de Granada region of Granada Province.
Interaction between the village inhabitants and competitors is important for the race and a good example of how sports tourism can benefit a region. We rely heavily on the support of the towns, villages, various tourist information departments and Regional Government and ask that all competitors treat the local people and the environment with respect.
The race is semi-supported : Competitors will be required to carry obligatory items (see Equipment list). This is to include food/energy bars/gels and a minimum of 1.5 litres of water excluding any pre-mixed electrolyte drinks. 1.5 litres of water will be available at every checkpoint and also at the finish.
Non obligatory equipment will be transported from village to village, in kit bags.
During stages competitors are required to carry enough food to sustain them. They are permitted to purchase non-alcoholic drinks or snacks along the course if they wish to.
Water :
Bottled water (1.5litre) will be supplied at the start and finish of each stage and at checkpoints. In addition mountain springs will be marked on the route map. Tap water is safe to drink except where you see an ‘Aqua Non Potable’ signs.

The race villages will be set up with tents and marquees, first aid station, massage treatment staion. There will be no gender separation. Where possible toilets and wash rooms will be open and/or basic supplementary facilities will be provided. Race shop :
Eletewater, Mule bars, NUUN/ZYM electrolyte tablets etc will be available to purchase in the race village.

We will have a team of masseurs available. There will be a small charge for this service and limited time slots.
Dropping out :
Competitors are not allowed to leave the race without informing the organizers. If an injury or medical emergency occurs, then the competitors name and number will be recorded at the nearest available checkpoint and relayed to the finish.
Competitors who drop out on one stage but feel ok to continue later in the race will, with the Race Doctor’s approval, be allowed to continue as unclassified, ( Race number crossed out ).
