Race entries are coming in steadily.

If Race Entries follow the same pattern as last year, once Christmas is over we will have a rush - so if you have friends and team mates considering entering, and still planning their 2010 season then please remind them about the race. Check out the competitor’s page, maybe you will recognize some of the 2010 participants.

The race is ideal for anyone who is registered for Marathon des Sables in 2011 or 2012. The MdS is still seen as a must do and many first time entrants, usually UK based ones, seem to go into this race without any previous ultra stage racing experience. Apart from it being a quarter of the price and fairly close to UK, The beauty of Al Andalus is that, although it is a hard race, competitors don’t need to carry much more than food and water; they can concentrate on completing the stages. Also by mixing with more experienced competitors they can make decisions regarding kit and clothing for future self sufficiency races without having to buy in advance. It will also give them an idea of how they respond to high temperature racing.

With regard to this, if you look in the Article Archives, you will see I have added an article on Heat Acclimatization. This should make a real difference to your training for MdS, Al Andalus or any other races in hot environments that figure in future plans.

With regard to kit and clothing, over the next few months we will be expanding this side of the Team Axarsport business and with our associate David Scott www.sand-baggers.com that will enable us to provide many more races, training camps, clothing, kit and medical services.

There will be more information on this new development in the next news letter but in the meantime please keep checking the Al Andalus website.
