We are pleased to welcome Dr. Andrew Murray as our 2010 Race Medical Director. Andrew is both an accomplished expedition doctor and a strong ultrarunner. He has advanced qualifications in Trauma life support, Cardiac life support, Emergency life support and Wilderness medicine plus the experience of leading medical teams on expeditions in the desert, arctic, high mountains and temperate zones.
He will be responsible for competitors (and staff) medical care during the race. He also teaches on the medical aspects of ultra running as well as being a good runner in his own right with victories in the Arctic, Sahara desert, Gobi desert and Scotland. He has also climbed 4 of the 7 summits (the highest mountains on each continent).
Although an ECG isn’t compulsory for Al Andalus many event organisers do ask for these so if you are interested in having one done, then this service, amongst many others, is now offered via his website and will also be available at the race. www.marathonmedicalservices.co.uk An ECG can also be booked via www.sand-baggers.com
Andrew has also contributed two articles which can be found in the Article Archive.
