We are delighted to welcome back to the 2010 edition of AAUT :-
Colm McCoy, the KIS Team: Penni Dymond, Janet Carter and Joanne Rodda, the Taureg Team Extreme: Joaquin Postigo, Fernando Cantero and Jaun Caravel, Jack Ricketts, Arend Burgers, Joe Green and Paula Gould ( recently married ), Andrew Mucklestone, Martine Hofstede, Ingrid Peperkamp, Tony Salter, Ricardo Costa and Peter Proost, Raul Morales Lopez, Mimi Anderson and a promise of more to come.
We just had a Team Axarsport reunion with all of the staff involved and when we told them these folks were returning a great cheer went up. We have a few surprises for them and the race will feel different, but the wonderful camaraderie we all enjoyed will remain in our memories and will continue in 2010.
Our new participants will find these runners dynamic, hardworking, dedicated, generous and a great deal of fun !
We look forward to a brilliant race !
Yamaa Trust.
There are so many charities around offering " places in races " ( providing you raise x amount ) that it seems like it is the only way to get into them. I am not over keen on this idea and I know some of the big events are being investigated regarding where the huge amounts of money actually go. On the other hand, some charities are small and specific and any money raised goes directly to them.
The Yamaa Trust was set up by veterans of the Gobi Challenge in order to contribute to the area that the race visits each year. It has a single aim – the reduction of poverty in the south Gobi region. To date they have built orphanages, funded medical care and donated a defibrillator to an isolated settlement.
In 2010 the aim is to fund the establishment of the areas first School for Deaf Children.
My reasons for deciding to help with this particular project are:
1, I am deaf so I can relate to the problem and how it affects your life.
2, Our race doctor, Andrew Murray, is the Yamaa Trust medical officer.
3, Dave Scott (sand-baggers.com) is a founder member and promotes the Gobi Challenge as well as other great races which we at Team Axarsport are happy to support.
A small amount goes a long way in the Gobi Desert region so I will hold a specific prize draw at the Al Andalus Gala dinner which will hopefully add to the fund.
In the meantime, if you would like to make a donation please let me know.

Thanks for the 3 comments. Dave, I hope we can raise some money for the Trust, probably via a raffle at the Gala Dinner. Penni, Glad you and the Team are looking forward to this year, we have some fantastic new sections (which I will cover in a NEWS item), plus some really great additions to the stage race villages food support service:) |

Paul, many thanks for the interest in, and support for, Yamaa Trust. I think your description hits the nail on the head. The race is looking awesome and looks like going from strength to strength. |

Hi Paul, was just wondering how different the route will be? Barbara mentioned that the recent bad weather had forced some additional alterations, you're not making it any easier are you?!! |

Really looking forward to it Paul, and to meeting all the gang again. I had such a great time last year I can only recommend it to anyone even remotely considering it. It was our first foray into the world of Ultras and we couldn't have had more support and encouragement from you guys : )) |
